It's Getting Cold Out

At some point in the second week of November the weather turned and there is a chill in the air, a real chill! It was a bit past 2pm today when I armed myself with a crazy amount of warm clothing, I dressed myself with layers upon layers, I added my helmet that had total coverage (it's the one the wear when it's cold out) and then I headed out in the sunshine. I still felt somewhat cold, but I was loving the sunshine, the falling of leaves and just the thrill I get when I ride. I didn't make to far, I was about 30 minutes from home when I arrived at Larry's work and decided that was far enough. I met Larry after his shift was over and we drove home together, along Riverside Drive - it was a beautiful ride - and so much fun to do with Larry, it may be the last  'together' ride of the season and I was loving it.

Larry's bike at work, waiting for the ride home.

As winter and cold weather settles in, so do I - however, it was great to get a ride in today, even if it was a short one.

November 1st

Today is November 1st, 2015 - last night daylight savings time ended, our 'clocks' fell back an hour, and it was halloween night. First of all halloween wasn't as busy as it usually is, the slow steady rain kept a lot of the kids away, which means there is a lot of candy around the house (ugh!!). And before I went to bed I set all the clocks back an hour, which means it's gets darker earlier. Today, the weather was so pretty, the sun was bright and the temps were in the high 60's. As soon as I got a chance I took the bike out, I was looking for fall foliage but I was out of luck, seems like the colours have come and gone, a lot of the tree's were bare.

I throughly loved the ride, taking deep breaths of the crisp air, it was a bit chilly but I was well dressed. I did a routine route, which didn't feel routine, it just felt good to be out. I followed Detroit River, then Lake Erie and then marsh's.

Dirt road, surrounded by nature - marshes are just past the bush. Lake Erie is just a block away - it's cottage land.

Although I was enjoying the ride, the sun started setting earlier,  thanks to the end of daylight savings time. The sun was getting low and the chill in the air almost starting getting cold, plus I was getting hungry - time to head home.

The sweet temperatures today were somewhat unexpected after all the cool weather we've been getting, the first 'frost' came a few weeks ago and mornings have been so cold it seems to demand a warm coat, but today we got a short reprieve from the cold and a fun reminder of summer time.

I so much enjoyed my time on my bike today!

Back Again

I've just spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica, I didn't get the chance to ride there as I did the last time (check out the post here). So I was excited to get home to ride again, however the weather has not co operated.  It seems like I went from summer to autumn in one little plane ride. Today was my first chance to ride and the weather wasn't as delightfully warm as I had hope, instead I got this; Today's weather

I did bundle up though, starting with long johns, jeans and then my Harley Davidson rain pants (and that was just the bottom layer) - It wasn't as cold as it was windy but yet the chill did make it through all my layers. It made the bath I took when I got home so very wonderful!! Today we started with breakfast at Marija's and then we were off to Ace's, he replaced my clutch lever (which has been on order for the whole season), I was pretty excited about that. I was following Larry as we drove throughout our area, it just felt good being out on my bike again :) Also felt good getting home again. Screen Shot 2014-10-08 at 11.33.18 PM

Last Ride of the Season

Its been a couple of weeks since we got a bit of a break with the weather, I had no idea that it could possibly be my last ride of the season. I remember the day so clearly, I was pretty excited to see that the temps were predicted to go up around 17°c (63°F) and that I was able to take advantage. I bundled up, I had 3, maybe 4 layers of clothing on - which turned out to be needed. I got my bike out and tried to take a picture but the sun worked against me however I included this picture to show the fall colours on my tree, which has since lost all of it leaves. IMG_4623

I started my ride, I decided to do Riverside Drive, it's a classic street that runs along the Detroit River, it's very pretty. You will find a lot of bikes on that road and of course lots of other traffic.  I made my first stop downtown and took a picture, soon after I stopped I was greeted by another biker, there were so many out that day - it's like we all knew it was going to be the last ride.

So here I am downtown Windsor looking at downtown Detroit, you can see the Renaissance Centre in the background. I enjoyed the ride, it's a slow drive with a fun view, Riverside drive follows the Detroit river which leads to Lake St. Clair where I ended up.

Here I am with Lake St. Clair in the background, there were actually 2 boats in the water, I'm not sure you can see them but they must have been freezing. I then made a stop to visit a friend and by time I was ready to go home the temperatures dropped quite a bit, so I put on my warm rain pants and thoroughly enjoyed the ride home.
