Costa Rica Again

I'm just getting home from Costa Rica, while there I had the pleasure of riding Matthew's bike-only once because we were very busy. So here I am without a helmet riding a bike that is held together with string and other miscellaneous stuff. I stayed close to home, partly because I was breaking a few laws such as the helmet thing and I didn't have the required papers for the bike as well they require people to wear a reflective vest - my other concern was the bike breaking down on me, you want to be close to home if that happens.

It would be so fun to take a real bike trip there one day and explore the whole beautiful country. I did enjoy my little jaunt, it felt good to be on a bike again and the breeze that came up from driving so fast was somewhat refreshing from the heat of the day.

I did get some fun video, here is a short part where my shadow takes on a life of it's own - I think my shadow makes me look super bad ass, what do you think?  Me & My Shadow

March has made its entrance, after February's record breaking cold it seemed too much to expect a tropical weather change with the arrival of a new month, so it was a pleasant surprise that yesterday brought sunshine with temps as high as 2°Celsius - it seemed almost balmy.  Charlie, my new foster dog and I went for our daily walk and this was the first time I 'over' dressed plus we had the longest walk, although it didn't seem to tucker him out at all - if anything he only seemed to have more energy.

Although breaking the freezing point is exciting, it's not good biking weather.

In exactly two weeks I will be saying goodbye to this weather and hello to Costa Rica and hopefully I'll be getting some biking in. Also another hope is that spring will be here when I get home. Such an exciting thought!

Back Again

I've just spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica, I didn't get the chance to ride there as I did the last time (check out the post here). So I was excited to get home to ride again, however the weather has not co operated.  It seems like I went from summer to autumn in one little plane ride. Today was my first chance to ride and the weather wasn't as delightfully warm as I had hope, instead I got this; Today's weather

I did bundle up though, starting with long johns, jeans and then my Harley Davidson rain pants (and that was just the bottom layer) - It wasn't as cold as it was windy but yet the chill did make it through all my layers. It made the bath I took when I got home so very wonderful!! Today we started with breakfast at Marija's and then we were off to Ace's, he replaced my clutch lever (which has been on order for the whole season), I was pretty excited about that. I was following Larry as we drove throughout our area, it just felt good being out on my bike again :) Also felt good getting home again. Screen Shot 2014-10-08 at 11.33.18 PM

Riding in Costa Rica

I'm sitting here at Kiki's restaurant in Playa Grande, Costa Rica, enjoying some coffee, warm breezes and free wifi. I am fortunate  to be able visit my daughter who is about to have a baby here:) I got the opportunity the other day to borrow her and her husbands bike, and went for a delightful ride along the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. It is so beautiful here, and so much fun to be on a bike again after a long winter.

I have an iphone 'book book' wallet and I was using my phone to take these pictures, I stopped a one point to take a picture of a huge iguana, that's when I realize that I no longer had my iphone wallet with me. There were so many bumps in the road, I could have lost it anywhere. I retraced my steps, stopped and asked people along the way but no luck, I was really starting to panic, all of my credit cards, license, and important info plus my phone, after a couple of hours I went to my daughters house and we went out looking together, she drove and called my cell, which we hoped would find it - one time someone answered the phone! So here is what happened, I hit a huge bump in the road and it fell out of my pocket, someone saw it happen and picked it up but there was no way to catch up to me. He was trying to figure out who the phone belonged to and went through my pictures, he recognised some of the pictures I had and tried to call my daughter but wasn't able to get through. Sweet relief!! And an answer to prayer!

A native Tico found it, and tried to return it quickly, we make it difficult by making all kinds of frantic phone calls. Costa Rica is a county of wonderful, friendly & honest people. I am blessed!
